Innovation leader - Aprilia
Following consecutive world championship wins in 2006 and 2007 for its riders and bikes in 125cc and 250cc road racing, Aprilia delivers 2 completely new and innovative street bikes to Japan.
Do you know the name Aprilia? Aprilia is part of the Piaggio Group and is a name synonymous with motorcycle racing success and innovation in Italian design and technology.
Well Aprilia has now turned the motorcycle market upside down with a product that is both a motorcycle and a scooter, at the same time! The new Mana 850 has something for everybody. If you're a scooter rider that would like to enjoy the feeling of carving the turns on a motorcycle or if you are a motorcycle rider that would like to enjoy the comforts of riding an automatic scooter, then this is for you.
Other makers have attempted automatic solutions. The Yamaha FJR1300AE touring bike used an automatic clutch to make manual gear shifts easier and the latest scooter-like 680cc Honda DN-01 has a hydraulic and mechanical solution.
But Aprilia is the first to combine continuously variable transmission engine technology in this engine size with an Italian style naked bike. It`s the only motorcycle with a "Sequential autodrive" gearbox and under-seat fuel tank. The Mana is 2 bikes in 1, and able to satisfy the needs of demanding riders.
The way the gearbox works can be switched to suit the circumstances:
1) Sequential with two mechanical gear shift modes: foot gear shift for
classic shifting action or Tip-tronic on the handlebars for fun week-end riding.
2) Autodrive with three engine performance maps (Touring, Sport, Rain) for a great ride even in city traffic.
The rider can switch between Sequential and Autodrive and select specific maps without stopping the bike and gear shifts are smoother than any other motorcycle you can find!
The Mana`s Italian design is distinctive, but not flashy and the riding position is really comfortable.
There`s another surprise. When is a fuel tank not a fuel tank? When you can put your helmet inside it!! The Mana fuel tank is at the rear of the bike which creates space for a front storage compartment where the fuel tank would normally be, large enough for a full face helmet.
The designers of the Mana have revolutionized the approach to 2 wheeled transportation and gone to great lengths to improve your riding comfort.
As a leader in motorcycle innovation Aprilia has now equipped its new Shiver 750 with ride-by-wire technology, thus making it the most advanced 750cc naked on the market.
Other products such as the Honda CB750 have long been the reference point for this engine size, but Aprilia now offer something radically different, but at the same time very elegant, very stylish, very Italian. This is a bike to be used every day, both in the city and touring.
With 95 hp the 90ﾂｺ v-twin engine configuration doesn`t lose out in performance to similar capacity in-line 4-cylinder bikes, but delivers exceptional torque at low rpm, and still maintains a compact size.
Are you wondering what is ride-by-wire? Basically the handlebar throttle sends a signal to a computer instead of directly to the throttle itself and servo motors commanded by the computer then control each cylinder's throttle. When this is combined with other sensors on the bike it provides:
- complete torque management system
- automatic compensation and balancing as each cylinder is controlled independently by the computer
- automatic torque adjustment to manage slow or rapid acceleration and avoid jerking.
- standing start power control
- engine braking control
- lower engine emissions and noise
This electronic engine management system is derived from the latest generation of automobile ECUs.
The top quality frame means that the Shiver is agile and easy to ride. This makes a tremendous difference on all types of road and in all conditions. The frame has been designed to fit precisely around the bike and to allow the exhaust to follow a path along the bike`s centreline. The Shiver is therefore perfectly balanced and compact. The frame`s lightness, combined with its rigidity, guarantee superior handling and control.
Finally, the ergonomics of the shiver have been carefully designed by Aprilia`s engineers who are passionate motorcyclists themselves and is comfortable for both rider and passenger.
